Labour mobility crucial to PACER Plus: trade advisor

It’s had a long and difficult history but negotiations towards the Pacific or PACER PLUS free trade deal are continuing.

The Australian government says the proposed deal to link Australia and New Zealand and the Pacific Islands is still on its agenda, with hopes to conclude talks by next year.

Two issues continue to stand out – labour mobility among Pacific workers and development assistance for the region.

Dr. Edwini Kessie, the Chief Trade Advisor to the Pacific, is in New Zealand where he’s been meeting with Pacific Islands Forum representatives to discuss recent developments.
