Forum Island Country Trade Ministers Met in the Republic of Marshall Islands
The fourth Forum Island Country Trade Ministers’ Meeting was held on 10 May 2012 in Majuro, Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI). The Meeting was chaired by Honourable Phillip Muller, Minister for Foreign Affairs of RMI and Honourable Michael Konelios, Minister for Resources of Development of RMI.

New Pacific Chief Trade Adviser Signs
Dr Edwini Kessie, a Geneva-based international trade law expert has signed to be the new Chief Trade Adviser (CTA) for the Pacific Island Countries and the head of the Port Vila-based Office of the Chief Trade Adviser (OCTA). The decision to appoint Dr Kessie was made at the Special Forum Island Country Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Brussels in December last year following recommendations from the Selection Panel.

Forum Island Countries Seek to Move PACER Plus Forward on Priority Issues
At the Forum Trade Ministers’ Meeting, held on 18‐19 May 2011 in Vava’u, the Kingdom of Tonga, Forum Island Country Trade Ministers and their Australian and New Zealand counterparts made significant decisions on the way forward on PACER Plus negotiations. The Meeting builds upon earlier decisions of Ministers.

The Office of the Chief Trade Adviser is now an Independent Entity
An integral part of the decision of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders to commence PACER Plus negotiations in 2009 was the endorsement of the establishment of the Office of the Chief Trade Adviser (OCTA). The OCTA, based in Vanuatu, was set up to provide independent advice and support to the Forum Island Countries in PACER Plus negotiations with Australia and New Zealand.
